Christening

Baptism (or Christening as it is sometimes called) is how an adult or child is made part of the church. It is a sign of God’s love for us, and marks the beginning of a life long journey of faith, in which we commit ourselves to follow Jesus. If you live in the parish of East or West Clandon, or worship in either of the parish churches, or if you or a close relative lives or worships here, we would love to talk to you about the baptism of your child.

We will invite you to meet with Barnaby (the Rector) after a service one Sunday, and to come to a short session for you to think about the meaning of baptism with other families considering baptising their child. We will also put you in touch with a baptism supporter, a member of the church who will get to know your family as your prepare for baptism and will be there to support you at the baptism service.

If you have an older child who would like to be baptised, or if you are an adult who would like to explore baptism, we would also love to speak to you and help guide you on this important step.

Baptisms can happen either in our main Sunday morning service where the local church congregation will be present to welcome you or your child into God’s family, or at a shorter service of baptism, primarily for family and friends, on a Sunday afternoon, or any other day of the week (except Fridays).
